In case of probiotic bacteria, high diversity does not always equate to better health-promoting effects. Despite the enormous natural diversity of microorganisms that occur in the digestive tract, it is estimated that about four species of bacteria from the genera Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus dominate in healthy people. We must also remember that the properties of a given bacterium are not dependent on their species but on their strain, which means that Lactobacillus plantarum A and Lactobacillus plantarum B, despite the fact that they are both Lactobacillus plantarum, can have completely different properties. During the formulation of each of our products, the main focus was on the desirable properties of the strains, including high resistance to unfavorable conditions (gastric acid and bile salts), ease of colonization and high anti-pathogen activity. Then, the antagonistic activity of the strains meeting the above expectations was tested. Therefore, such strains were selected that show synergy and do not compete with each other.

In the professional literature at the term ‘probiotic’ very often appear such terms as genus, species, strain. How to distinguish them from each other? Well, genus defines a group of organisms that includes different species. A species defines a group of microorganisms of a particular genus that includes different strains, and a strain is a population within the range of a particular species of microorganisms that is distinguished by certain characteristics. Always choose probiotic products in which the bacterial strains are described by their full, three-part name! Proper nomenclature of probiotic strains is an extremely important issue. For example:

• Bifidobacterium animalis AMT30

A temperature of 2-8 degrees Celcius guarantees the stability and survivability of bacterial strains. It is worth emphasizing here that all Nature Science products contain LIVE strains of probiotic bacteria. Even though many distributors do not recommend storing products containing lactic acid bacteria in the refrigerator, it should be expected that regardless of the production technology used, the amount of bacteria contained in the product will decrease.

Yes, the bacterial strains used in Nature Science products survive in low pH gastric juice. As for the effect of “digesting” the bacteria in the stomach and their ability to pass in active form to the intestines, it all depends on the properties of the strain in question and its resistance to gastric acid and bile salts – we have conducted appropriate tests and both low pH in the stomach and bile salts do not deactivate our bacteria – this is confirmed by the research of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

The bacteria contained in our products do not require specialized capsules because they survive in the low pH of the stomach and bile salts. In addition, the probiotic product taken in the form of a powder previously dissolved in water determines the effect on the entire gastrointestinal tract.

The use of flavorings involves the introduction of chemicals into the product, which can result in food allergies. Moreover, adding such substances goes against our philosophy of using all-natural ingredients.

Probiotic bacteria, when administered, should colonize and multiply in the intestine. On the other hand, if we provide probiotic bacteria continuously they will lose the “need” to multiply. According to reports from relevant societies, the effectiveness of probiotic products is highest when taken for 1-3 months. After this period, it is recommended to take a break.

High-quality components come with a higher price tag. In addition, the highest quality, purified bacterial feedstock is produced under pharmaceutical conditions. All together, the price of the product may seem high, however, the customer receives in return a dietary supplement of the highest, strictly controlled quality. It is also worth noting here that all Nature Science products have LIVE strains of probiotic bacteria in their composition.

Unfortunately, when taking an antibiotic, not everyone knows that along with inhibiting the growth of pathogenic microorganisms, beneficial bacteria also suffer, which reduces the biodiversity of the intestinal microbiota. As a consequence, nutrients are less well absorber. During antibiotic therapy, you should take probiotic products (provided that there is no conflict between the optimal pH of the antibiotic and the pH of the intestinal contents lowered by the probiotic, if any – their intake should be determined within the time interval specified by the doctor or pharmacist after the dose of the antibiotic).

Our philosophy to skincare, revolving around probiotics, is to use few but effective products. This means that with our products, we rarely recommend using more than one or two products as a complete morning- and evening routine. If you however still wish to use other products in complement to BAKs, you can still do that. You should however be aware that many traditional skincare products are water-based and therefore contain preservatives which are added to kill bacteria. We therefore recommend that you wait as long as possible (preferably 60 minutes) between the probiotic products and the traditional ones in order for the bacteria to have a significant effect on the skin.

In general, YES. Some make-up products contains antimicrobials (e.g. BB creams) and these will kill the probiotic bacteria in the BAK skincare products.

Yes, can be used close to the eye, on the eye lid and also on the eye lashes. The products are non-irritant to the eye, but for contact lens users the oils and fats can give a greasy film on the lens and therefore recommendable to remove the lens before applying BAK probiotic skincare in the eye area.

Yes.

The sun protection products with zinc oxide or titanium oxide sunscreen ingredients (physical sun filters) are often damaging to the skin microbiome and will in a high concentration kill the probiotic bacteria in BAK skincare. But – the probiotic bacteria can be combined with products containing chemical sun filters. Bacteria will be killed by the UV rays of the sun and therefore avoid adding probiotic bacteria just before sunbathing. Instead, the BAK probiotic skincare products are excellent after sun products. Useful to repair, soothe and calm sunburned skin.

The live probiotic bacteria is encapsulated in very small crystals to keep the cells alive, as well as the prebiotic inulin, also is un-soluble in oils and fats and will feel like small crystals. The crystals are the “good stuff”. Humidity, in the air or on the skin, will often dissolve the crystal very fast, but sometimes humidity is low, and the crystals feels like fine peeling. Add a drop of water to the skin or fingers/hands and the crystals will instantly dissolve.

Both the probiotic bacteria and the prebiotic inulin is not soluble in oils. The live probiotic bacteria is encapsulated in very small crystals to keep the cells alive. These small crystals will sediment and can be visible in the button of the oil bottle. Sake the oil before use.

Yes, safe and healthy. All the probiotic bacteria used in BAK skincare are produced in a food grade quality (produced kosher and halal). They are species categorized as GRAS in the US (Generally Recognized as Safe) and QPS listed in EU (Qualified Presumption of Safety). The probiotic bacteria in BAK does not produce any toxins nor do they have virulence factors or genes for antibiotic resistance.

Yes. The BAK skincare products can be used on acne skin of patients taking oral retinoids or oral antibiotics. The products are developed to be used alone. But they can be combined or mixed in any order.

The products are safe and cannot be overdosed. Can be used as much as wanted/needed. We typically recommend 1-2 times per day. The probiotic bacteria stays alive on the skin for about 12 hours after application – unless it is washed off.
